Voortman offers regularly scheduled training courses for all Voortman Ocean equipment in their Bradley Illinois facility. These courses are available for both new operators and retraining existing operators. Participants who have completed this course return to the shop motivated, highly trained and eager to improve their productivity. Call us for more information and pricing.

The CNC Beam Drill Line was a huge hit with small- to medium-sized fabricators who produce both structural steel and other miscellaneous materials. More than 600 CNC Beam Drill Lines have been installed since 2003. This amazing machine has made a significant impact on the lives of many steel fabricators.

"..We have drilled approximately 25.000 holes since we purchased our CNC Beam Drill Line four months ago. It used to take us 5 minutes to drill each hole. It now takes us approximately. It takes us 30 seconds per hole... that's a savings of 1875 hours over 4 months. This is equivalent to $84,375 in our shop. This machine will pay off in less than a year, as you can see. It not only speeds up production but also frees up space for more jobs.

Voortman machines are the world leaders in structural steel fabrication technology. Steel fabricators that own Voortman machines uphold an advantage in the steel industry and have the ability to optimize tonnage capacity. The Advantage-2 CNC beam drill line is the backbone of any structural steel fabrication shop. High-speed, multi-spindle, relentless carbide drilling is the very core of this machine. The design of the Advantage-2 has created one of the most profitable drill lines in the steel industry. A heavy steel frame ensures this drill line will support shops for the long haul. The Advantage-2 can run profiles end to end with no stop in production all thanks to the roller feed design on the infeed and outfeed. Hundreds of fabricators across the globe run hundreds of thousands of tons of steel through their Advantage-2s year after year.

The CNC Beam Drill Line is built exclusively for GSS Machinery by Voortman. Voortman handles the installation, warranty and service work on the CNC Beam Drill Line. And while Voortman is the service provider, GSS Machinery is always there to get involved should the need arise.

Powered by 25 HP (18.5 kW) Siemens spindle motors, the Advantage-2 is outfitted with 3 drill spindles, each equipped with 5-station tool changers. This powerful drilling technology allows for maximized operating time and drill hole quality.

This Morse Taper Chuck adaptor allows for standard parallel shank drill bits to be used when drilling smaller diameters. It permits a maximum drill size of? It permits a maximum diameter of 12mm (12mm) as well as a minimum diameter 3/64’’ (1mm).

Importing files directly into your steel detailing software is a better option. It eliminates unnecessary steps and can also prevent any incorrect data capture. This is a distinction that can be distinguished into two camps:

What is beam strength

Auto Stand-Off – This is currently defined to be surface stand-off and not to be confused with vector stand-off in 5-axis mode. The current auto stand-off is based on a changing surface and will adjust vertically based on the angle of the “A” Axis, so there is five (5) axis taken into account during the calculations, but this is not the same as the tool vector stand-off. There is the ability to do the vector stand-off change while the machine is running manually with buttons on the screen.

The CNC Beam Drill Line can import DXF files and can use them to process 3-D shapes as long as the steel is detailed according to specific rules. Some of these rules might be different to the way you are detailing at the moment and might require some adjustment. This process is not nearly as seamless as the 3-D modeling software solutions above.

We at GSS Machinery are often asked by our customers what drill bits should they use – twist drill bits or insert bits? Our number one agenda is to ensure that our customers pursue the lowest cost per hole drilled, as this will make them more competitive and profitable. However it is important that they fully understand their options, Insert Drill Bit (Spade Drill Bit ) Advantages

Voortman’s Roller Feed Measuring system surpasses industry standards in roller measurement technology. The key to accurate measurements is not allowing for any production hesitations. Even when there are material variations, accuracy must be maintained.

GSS Machinery will provide you with as many options as you need when drilling with your CNC Beam Drill Line.

Voortman has shaped today’s CNC beam drill line standard with time-tested technology. The Advantage-2 processes an average of 150 tons of steel per work week with the most efficient drilling, milling, scribing, tapping and countersinking operations.

Frequently Asked Questions

Divide the beam's span in inches by 20 to calculate its required depth. A 25' span would equal 25x12 / 20, which is 15 inches. This beam's width would vary between 1/3 to 1/2 its depth.

For small buildings, the distance between two reinforced columns is between 3-4m and 6-9m. Larger facilities that require large columns and lots of free space will have to be at least 6-9m. A distance of 5m is acceptable for ordinary structures. The maximum span is 7.5, while the minimum span is 2.5m.

THE STANDARD SIZE FOR THE BEAMS It is 9" x 12" or 225mm x 300mm in a residential building, according to (IS codes).

The hole size should not exceed 38mm (1.25 in.). The beam depth should not exceed one-tenth of the hole diameter, whichever is less, with the exception being 25mm (1 in.).

Horizontal Beams are the most commonly used structural members. They are usually horizontal, but they can be oriented in any direction. Beams are large horizontal members which carry floor loads from floors, walls or roofs to columns or foundation walls.
